Music be my refuge
Shelter me within your walls
Keep me from the chaos
Strengthen me, don’t let me fall
In between the notes
Your comfort lies
Underneath the tones
A place to hide
Colors changing slow
Love is harmony
Let me draw the mystic curves
Of your melody
Music guide me
Through the storm
Keep me safe and warm
Through the years
Always there
Mourning dove
Firm but fair
Though you sing
Of despair
There’s a hope
In your wail
Mourning dove, please share
Tell me why you care
Open up your wings
Tell me why you sing
In your solitude
Tell me why you brood
Share the peaceful poise
Wooded wisdom brings

For Brooklyn-based pianist/composer/producer Jesse Fischer, the simplest things are best — a catchy melody, a heartfelt lyric, an irrepressible groove. Known for his warm, soulful touch and singable melodies, Jesse crosses boundaries between jazz, soul, and singer-songwriter genres with his latest offering, Day Dreamer (Ropeadope Records, Sept 25, 2015). Featuring guest appearances from vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles, trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, violinist Zach Brock, and alto saxophonist Godwin Louis, the album is a modern update on 1970's jazz-funk with influences from Jewish folksong, traditional American music, West African rhythms, gospel, and French impressionist composers.
Special guests:
Sarah Elizabeth Charles / vocals (tracks 2, 5, 6, & 9)
Takuya Kuroda / trumpet (track 8)
Zach Brock / violin (track 3), bari violin (track 4)
